Hailey, a stressed university student feels disconnected from her real life and escapes into lucid dreams set in a nostalgic 2000s world. At first, the dreams feel warm, social, and exciting, giving her the friendships, freedom, and confidence she misses in reality. But as she becomes more attached to them, the dream starts revealing uncomfortable truths about her real life and eventually turns overwhelming and nightmarish. After waking up, she decides to stop escaping and starts bringing the things she loved about the dream—connection, confidence, and self-expression—into her real life.
