MY DESIGN GIRL | Graduation film casting

My Desi Girl is a colorful, romantic comedy about love, cultural differences, and the awkward situations that arise when you try just a little too hard to make a good impression.

Willemijn and Rhea have recently started dating, and Willemijn is head over heels in love. When she goes to meet Rhea's Indian family for the first time, she sees this as the perfect next step in their relationship. But once she arrives, she discovers that Rhea hasn't told her parents anything about their relationship yet.

Determined to make a good impression nonetheless, Willemijn tries to find her place within the family. She immerses herself in Indian culture and does her utmost to fit in. However, her well-intentioned enthusiasm mainly leads to awkward and hilarious situations.

As tensions rise, Willemijn and Rhea come up with a very special way to announce their relationship: a Bollywood performance!

Mijn Desi Girl is a playful and warm queer rom-com in which Dutch and Indian influences come together. The film is being made as a graduation project and is inspired by my own Indian background and love for Bollywood.

What we offer
Because this is my graduation film, we are working with a limited budget. However, we do offer a travel allowance, good catering on the filming days, and of course, a fun, creative, and professional working environment!

I believe it is important that everyone feels comfortable on set and that we can create something beautiful together with great enthusiasm. Pleasant collaboration, open communication, and room for personal input are central to this.

Description
For My Desi Girl, I am looking for enthusiastic actors and actresses who can bring the characters to life!

Especially for the roles within Rhea's family, I am looking for actors with a Dutch-Indian background. It is important to me that Indian culture is portrayed in a recognizable and authentic way. Therefore, I would find it incredibly valuable to work with people who know this culture from home and can bring their own experiences to the set.

It is a nice bonus if you speak Hindi and/or Bengali in addition to Dutch, but this is certainly not a requirement!

In addition, I am of course also looking for an actress for the role of Willemijn. For all the roles, I find it especially important that we have a good connection and that we can create a warm, funny, and believable film together.

WILLEMIJN – Lead role
Willemijn is an enthusiastic, spontaneous, and self-confident girl who sometimes acts a little too impulsively. She is head over heels in love with Rhea and wants nothing more than to make a good impression on her family. However, her well-intentioned enthusiasm regularly leads to awkward and hilarious situations.

RHEA – Lead role
Rhea is a sweet, caring, and sometimes somewhat insecure girl with an Indian background. She is in love with Willemijn but finds it difficult to be open about their relationship with her parents. She tries to keep everyone happy and prefers to avoid confrontations.

RHEA'S FATHER – Supporting role
A proud, loving Indian father who values his family. He has his own expectations of his daughter and can sometimes be a bit traditional. His reactions to unexpected situations within the family lead to comical moments.

For both parent roles, I am looking for actors with an Indian background. An affinity with Indian culture is important, and speaking Hindi and/or Bengali is a great advantage.
