The story revolves around a man and a woman in their twenties who, at first glance, seem completely different, but become connected by their insecurities. The main character is the woman, a former prostitute who was deceived by a loverboy at a young age. She's unsafe and has nowhere else to go, so they stay together. Through each other, they learn to see the world differently, and even though they're completely different, they grow closer. The man tries to extra out what the woman has been through and what she's hiding from him. What stands in the way is their clashes, yet their simultaneous desire to help each other. The bond they've formed is constantly being jeopardized, and the woman constantly fears losing the only thing she has left.

The Woman (Nina)
Background: Former prostitute, deceived by a loverboy at a young age. Manipulation, isolation, and abuse severely damaged her self-confidence.
Personality: Protective and fierce; she bites back when she dares, but knows when to hold back. She often tells men to shut up.
Appearance: Always well-groomed, wearing a different stylish outfit in every scene. As she becomes more comfortable with the man, she dresses more casually and comfortably.
Self-image: Her self-worth depends heavily on what others think of her. This stems from her past, where she was judged based on her appearance and treated worthlessly if she looked "worse."

The Man (Hendriks)
Background: Clumsy and mildly autistic. He has trouble understanding social cues, takes things literally, and strictly adheres to self-imposed rules about what's "right" and "wrong." He's against smoking, but by the end of the film, he's smoking anyway.
Personality: Insecure and withdrawn; prefers to be invisible because he's often ridiculed for his behavior. He believes he deserves it.
Development: Through his contact with the woman, he learns to defend himself against mean people and to stand up for himself more.
