Project description – Short film “The Applause of Silence”

The Applause of Silence is a short fiction film about identity, expectations and the search for one's own voice.

The film follows Mila (18), the daughter of a late, much-admired actor. As Mila auditions for film school, she feels the pressure of her father's legacy grow stronger. She questions whether she's acting out of passion, or out of trying to live up to what others expect of her.

During the audition process, Mila is confronted with memories of her father and her own insecurities. She slowly begins to realize that her future isn't determined by the past, but by the choices she makes.

The film plays with the contrast between applause and silence: external recognition versus the inner doubts of a young creator. With an intimate and emotional tone, the film aims to show how difficult—but also how liberating—it can be to choose your own path.

The project will be realised as a short film production with a small crew, with shooting planned in Antwerp on 8, 10 and 11 April.
