Genny

Genny van 't Veer (1987) studied Theatre, Film and Television Studies at Utrecht University and has been experimenting with short films ever since. Through various courses and internships, she has gained experience on film sets, with film production and funding applications. This led to an internship as an assistant producer at Conijn Film, where she mainly worked on funding applications for films such as A Family Affair (opening film IDFA, 2015). In the same period, she also started as a freelance producer and produced short films such as GOTTA (director: Sarah Veltmeyer | official selection Netherlands Film Festival '16), Ghost (director: Abigail Prade | official selection Shortcutz Amsterdam '17), Standplaats (director: Mirna Everhard and Ineke van der Hurk | official selection Rotterdams Open Doek '17). She worked for two years as a producer at CinemAsia FilmLAB, where she also set up a talent development program. In this way, she has helped filmmakers with an Asian (mixed) background to make short films, short documentaries and short film scripts. Now she will focus more on producing short films/documentaries and mentoring talent.
Quote: “For me it is very important that stories by and about people with a different perspective and/or background are shown on the big screen. I am a mix myself, half Asian and half Dutch. I know the different misconceptions that can arise between two cultures. I also know that stories by diverse filmmakers are not shown often enough in Europe. If we do get to see something, it is often stereotypical. For filmmakers without a classical film education it is difficult to make your voice heard in the Western media. But I firmly believe that their stories can build a bridge between different cultures.”
